Washington Monthly has published its list of America’s 50 best community colleges in 2010. As it prepared for the fall semester, North Country Community College learned it was ranked at number 22 in this nationwide survey of 650 community colleges across the nation. The college received the highest ranking of any New York State Community College on the list.
The list is complied with benchmarking data from the Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) and four-year federal graduation rates. The categories for rankings included learning, student effort, academic challenge, student-faculty interaction, support for learning and four-year graduation ranks. North Country consistently ranked over 50% in every area. Washington Monthly notes, “…the schools stand out in teaching and helping students earn degrees. When it comes to quality of instruction they outperform not only their two-year peers but also many elite four-year research universities.”

Anticipation and excitement surround the opening of the newest full service restaurant on the local dining scene.
Dozens of tradesman have completed work on Mo’s Pub & Grill, located on Malone’s busy west end near the soon to open Holiday Inn Express and Suites Hotel,Mo's is a brand new state of the art “green building” incorporating environmentally friendly features with style and design that combine traditional North Country ambience with modern sensibilities.
The result is stunning success. Near the building’s west side entrance is a covered, heated outdoor dining area as well as open patio dining. The area is attractively landscaped with plants & flowers from Bonesteel’s in North Bangor.
In the main building are two dining areas in front of wall to ceiling windows overlooking the bustling west Main Street business district in comfort and style. These front dining areas offer a mix of various sized tables and booths and can easily be separated for parties of any size. The décor is an eclectic mix of local historical photos, art and sculptures, attractive lighting with ceramic floors though out.
The cocktail lounge is in the center of the building, with 7 large HD TV monitors over the bar and a number an attractive high top table with matching chairs. The lounge décor showcases sports memorabilia including autographed pictures, sports jerseys, logos and other sporting items. The large, modern, professionally designed kitchen is bristling with brand new state of the art equipment.
It is situated in the center of the building and well positioned to handle large volume from the banquet facility or the lounge and dining areas. Large stainless steel rolling racks, energy efficient walk-in refrigeration units, all the latest professional cooking units are sure to please even the most demanding chef.
Perhaps the most impressive space is the Adirondack room, located a the back of the main building, overlooking the Holiday Inn Express & Suites, with stunning views of the St Lawrence River Valley.
