This lovely route is a designated Scenic Byway, that runs from one end of the Adirondacks to the other!
Broad shoulders, pretty rest areas, a road that is relatively flat for the views of the rugged countryside, and a delightful destination; these are hallmarks of the Malone/Paul Smiths section.
Take Route 30 south from the center of Malone, and pass through farm country to an area of abundant rivers and lakes. Upon reaching Duane, which is also the entrance to the Adirondacks, the terrain becomes more rugged, though there are many flat stretches, with views of ponds, rivers, and lakes. Watch for wildlife; moose have been spotted in the area!
Arrive at Paul Smiths College Visitor Interpretive Center, where there's a small natural history museum and a large network of hiking paths and interpretive information.
