There are excellent views of Lake Titus and Titus Mountain. A secondary view, slightly obstructed, gives you views of the Humbug Mountains.
Snowshoeing
Mileage Round Trip: 1.4 miles
Elevation: 1,980 feet
Level: Easy to moderate, with staircase at its steepest
Getting there: Follow Route 30 south out of Malone and continue for about 9 miles to the trailhead on the left. The dirt access road is roughly 1.5 miles to a parking area.
Note: The dirt access road is not suitable for vehicles which have low ground clearance. If doing this hike in winter or with a low-clearance vehicle, hike the road to the parking area and continue on. This will add about 3 miles to the round-trip.
The trail starts out following an old road, and then leaves the old road on the right and starts an easy to moderate climb up to the ridge. There is a view of Lake Titus at 0.8 miles, and a slight descent on the opposite side of a ridge will bring you to your final climb. There is an old wood staircase that brings you to the top.
The 1.5-mile Elephant Head Road provides access to Titus Mountain State Forest.
