Miracle Treat Day at the Malone Dairy Queen

Malone is a community considered small by most but also large by some. Whatever the size, there is one thing that our small town, in my humble opinion, rocks out better than any community: our dedication and fundraising efforts for the kids in our community.

When compared person to person and dollar to dollar, our business community knows how to bring in some money for the youth of our area. "Kids Matter Most" is the tagline of Adirondack for Kids, one of many non-profit organizations in the area and that sentiment truly shines in many of the events that occur in our area.

Throughout the year we have a tremendous amount of events going on that help fund our kids' organizations such as the Adirondack for Kids Turkey Trot in the Fall, Holiday Helpers in the Winter, Make-A-Wish Softball on Snow tournament in the early Spring, and right around the corner, Miracle Treat Day in the summer!

What is Miracle Treat Day?

For more than 10 years, the Dairy Queen Franchise has celebrated Miracle Treat Day to benefit the Children's Miracle Network. Last year over $4 million was donated to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals across the United States and Canada.

Here in Malone, the locally owned and operated Dairy Queen Grill & Chill has been celebrating Miracle Treat Day since their opening in 2013. Our Dairy Queen not only donates $1 for every Blizzard(r) sold on Miracle Treat Day, but they also pull out all the stops and make it a family friendly event full of fun! Our local hospital is the Vermont Children's Hospital and all the money raised at this event stays local to that hospital.

This Year at Miracle Treat Day

This year Dairy Queen has once again upped the ante for fun and excitement--all for a good cause! There will be bounce houses, a slip 'n slide, face painting, dunk booth, propane tank fill-ups, and the annual Blizzard Eating Relay! The event takes place this Thursday, July 27th from 4 to 8 p.m. with the Blizzard Relay commencing at 6 p.m.

Having fun at a previous Miracle Treat Day!

What is a Blizzard Relay?

This unique event is a fun way to eat delicious ice cream for a good cause... while in all likelihood getting a brain freeze! Teams of 5 sit at a table staring into the face of their opponents as they prepare to eat a small Blizzard as fast as they can! Just like a running relay, the next person on their team cannot start eating their Blizzard(r) until their teammate has finished theirs. The first team to finish all 5 of their Blizzards(r) win and continue through the bracket system until a grand prize winner is announced!

Wondering what a Blizzard(r) is? Well, it is heaven in a cup! To be more specific, it is Dairy Queen's thick soft serve ice cream blended with toppings of your choice ranging from peanut butter cups and bananas to oreos and pecans. And they blend it so thick that their claim is it will be served to you upside down or it's free. Can you say yumm?

Previous Miracle Treat Day Winners!

Also, a little birdie told me that there might even be a celebrity mascot team with the likes of Titus Teddy of Titus Mountain Family Ski Center, Mo the Monkey from Mo's Pub & Grill, and Monica the Moose from Adirondack for Kids. Do you think you have what it takes to beat these guys in a Blizzard(r) relay?

So what are you waiting for? Eat your dessert first this Thursday--after all, it's for the kids!

And while we would love you to make this event, if you can't make there will be plenty more local events that put the "fun" in fundraiser and truly bring a light upon Malone. See you there!
