2018 Concerts in the Park

The 2018 Concerts in the Park Series

The Malone Chamber of Commerce is set to host this year's concerts in the park series at the historic Arsenal Green Park.

This historic backdrop and the even more historic buildings around it create the scene for some great entertainment that we all love each summer. Each Friday in the month of July there is a free concert open to everyone -- residents and visitors alike. The concerts feature great local talent in a variety of genres!

Featured in the photo above is the Franklin Academy High School group, Swinging Sounds, who opened the show for us last year. Summer of 2017 also featured local favorites Thirty1 & Mandolin, who gave the crowds a great treat. Some of the other entertainment included the Busco Bandits, Lou Daques Band, and the Durham County Poets. One cool thing about this type of outdoor concert is that you just bring a lawn chair or blanket or whatever you would like to sit on and choose your favorite seat. This year you may notice that there are new benches all around the park for you to relax on. We suggest bringing a picnic dinner to enjoy while being serenaded throughout the evening.

What to expect this year

Yet again, the Malone Chamber of Commerce has done a great job curating this series. They have a bundle of different musical genres to keep you on the edge of your seat (or blanket) throughout the July series.

Larry Ebere will be in Malone to have you "bee-bopping" to some country hits. From classic country to new country -- and all the great hits in between, grab a partner, kick those cowboy boots off, and dance the Friday night away. If you want to get in the full country spirit, start your day with breakfast at the Countryside Diner, then spend the afternoon touring the Farmer Boy home at the Almanzo Wilder Homestead before you head over to the concert.

Too Tall String Band is getting ready to deliver some fun-loving bluegrass music to concert attendees. Are you a bluegrass lover? If so, the second weekend in July is just right for you. We think this pairs perfectly with a trip to Babbling Brook RV Park for some camping and fishing along the Salmon River right onsite at the campground. Stop in for a bite to eat at Nanette's Diner to fill your belly and get ready for the show.

On the third Friday in July you can have your head banging to the rock and roll sounds of the Barrell Proof Band. This would be great if you're really good at playing the air guitar. Speaking of rocking, bring your kayak over to the new kayak launch in Fort Covington and get rocking down the Salmon River. On your way through town, stop by Mo's Pub and Grill where they are always playing some classic rock music at the bar. Enjoy some locally-brewed Township 7 beer while you're there.

Rounding out the concert series is the Saul Goode Band which is another rock group. If you've been to the area before, you've almost surely seen this band out and about playing at events. Another way to get in the rock spirit is taking a trip to Chateaugay's High Falls Gorge to see the beautiful, rocky waterfall. On your way back to town, stop by Bokie's Drive In and take your picture with the king of rock and roll himself, Mr. Elvis Presley. Bokie's Drive In is perfectly themed for good old-fashioned fun and photo ops! It's full of memorabilia from the 50's bygone era -- and they serve up awesome food and ice cream.

Pick one of your favorites or attend them all and really make your Fridays in July memorable. Stroll through the beautiful historic park and admire the architecture of the nearby homes and buildings that occupy that part of the village. Connected to the park is the Wead Library where you can relax with a good book before the music starts.

We hope to see you soon here in Malone!
