Ten Things to do at The Franklin County Fair

Ten Things to do at The Franklin County Fair

It's that time of year again, when you see the big rigs trucking into Malone with the Amusements of America rides in tow. That's one way you know the Franklin County Fair is getting ready for ten full days of excitement with endless things to do and see. Here's a list of ten things I enjoy, in no particular order:

1. The Demolition Derby

The Franklin County Fair is known for its demolition derby. Be sure to bring some ear plugs and enjoy two shows. The first show is scheduled for Monday, August 5, at 6 p.m. for the stock cars and powder puff. The second is scheduled for Saturday, August 8, starting at 4 p.m. with the hall of fame ceremony, immediately followed by the truck and van derby.

2. Larry The Cable Guy

If redneck comedy is your schtick, then you're in for a treat. On Saturday, August 3, at 8 p.m. Larry the Cable guy will perform his hilarious comedy routine. Be sure to get your tickets early and reserve your spot.

3. Cattle Judging

If you like cows as much as I do, you'll want to spend some time watching the cattle shows. Franklin County has some of the most beautiful show cows in the state. Whether you like Holsteins or colored breeds, you'll see some of the county's finest bovines. The Holstein show is scheduled for Monday, August 5, at 9 a.m. and the colored breeds will be on Saturday, August 10, at 10 a.m.; both shows will be located in the Inside Arena.

4. Tractor Pull

You won't want to miss the tractor pull on Sunday, August 11, at 9 a.m. at the Grandstand. Be sure to bring some earplugs -- especially for the kiddos -- as you watch both new and antique tractors compete to pull the heaviest loads.

5. Air Supply

If you're a fan of '80s music, you're in for a treat! Be sure to buy your tickets ahead of time and get a good seat and take a stroll down memory lane with songs like "Every Woman in the World" and "All out of Love." The show is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Friday, August 9.

6. Grabbing a Bite to Eat

Of course you can't go to the fair and not get some of that well-known fair food! Whether you're into sausage and peppers or corn dogs, eating at the fair is a must. But don't forget to stop by Frenchie's Fried Dough, and spend the extra on the maple creme; you won't regret it!

7. The Midway

Whether you're a thrill-seeker or like the rides that are a little tamer, Amusements of America has something for you. What I like best about the midway is that it provides some of the best entertainment for the family. We love to take the kids and watch the joy in their eyes as they make some great family memories with us.

8. The Agricultural Exhibits

Some of my fondest memories at county fairs are the agricultural exhibits. The poultry barn is full of hundreds of birds, some of which I've never seen before. The kids always love to walk through the horse and goat barns. Most exhibitors allow the kids to pet the animals. The horticulture building is chock full of jams, plants, and flowers, truly showcasing some of the hardest work from the people in the county. Stop by and check out all of those blue ribbon winners!

9. Hell Drivers

On Tuesday, August 6, at 7 p.m. at the grandstand, KSR Motorsports will present the Hell Drivers. Both kids and adults are mesmerized by the stunts of these talented drivers. Watch as the drivers take the cars up on two wheels or skid around the track in full 360s.  Get there early, as seats fill up fast.

10. The Talent Shows

Lastly, Franklin County is home to some amazing talent. Come and watch as contestants compete for the famed "Franklin County's Got Talent" title. You'll find some of the best singing, dancing, and juggling; you name it, Franklin County has it! The Talent Show is Thursday, August 8, at 7:30 p.m..

This is just a very short list of all the things to do at the fair this year; there's so much more!  Check out the full list of events and pricing. Check out our local lodging and places to eat while visiting the great Franklin County Fair!
